Concepts' New Balance 57/40 Is A Home Run As Far As Babe Ruth Riffs Go

Babe Ruth was once a promising young baseball player with a lot to prove. The Yankees tried to cash in on their young firebrand with an early (and mostly fake) biopic when his career was on the rise. Concepts has harnessed this obscure event in baseball history for its latest New Balance collaboration, complete with thematic wearables, ever the innovator.

Concepts' sneaker partnerships are highly intricate, rich with intentional flair, despite its size - it manages four huge boutiques in prime real estate, as well as a large assortment of merchandise. This isn't really a secret, yet it never ceases to astonish me.

This drop, for example, is a play on the wildly fabricated Babe Ruth vehicle Headin' Home, a silent film that attempted to mythologize The Bambino's background by completely rewriting The Bambino's formative years. Concepts takes advantage of this ultra-specific launchpad with a sepia-toned sneaker and matching gear inspired by the warm, fading tones of the Headin' Home movie posters.

It's also a nod to the current rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, as both Concepts and New Balance were formed in Massachusetts. Plus, The Curse of the Bambino, which the Sox acquired when they traded Ruth to the Yankees in 1918, was just lifted a little over 20 years ago.

Oh, and if that wasn't enough, Concepts also makes a reference to Broadway musicals.

Phew. But what about the collaboration itself? There's a thematic 57/40 wrapped in orange-y, sandy tones, as well as Concepts clothes with thematic logos and branding to match. A couple New Era caps, along with hat-shaped candles, continue the MLB theme.
