Air Jordan 35

Traction:

The traction, while somewhat different than last year's Air Jordan 34, is largely unchanged — which is a good thing, because the Jordan 34 was a beast on every surface I tested it on. To be honest, I still have the Air Jordan 34 in my suitcase in case I don't like what I'm trying out. Because of the incredible traction, I always have the Jordan 34 in my bag, whether it's the standard edition, the Jordan 34 SE, or the Jordan 34 Low. Every day of the week, ultra-reliable and ready to go. It's the same way with the Air Jordan 35.

The traction, like that of the Air Jordan 34, isn't long enough for outdoor use. You won't have to worry if you're not an outside player. If you are, the traction is excellent. It's just really thin and will shortly wear out.

Cushion:

Unlocked Zoom Air is back, and this time there's more of it. The size of the Zoom in the forefoot hasn't changed between the Jordan 34 and Jordan 35, but the way it's implemented has. The Zoom is only exposed in one compartment, which I believe houses the cushioning a little better than the Jordan 34. As a result, I don't get the same wonderful Zoom-y feeling that I had with the prior model.

The heel, on the other hand, has been greatly enhanced, with the Hex Zoom unit from the Jordan 34 being replaced by a big heel Zoom Air unit. The Zoom-like sensation is subdued, similar to the forefoot, but the impact protection is present. Larger players, as well as those that play on their heels, should find them to be more enjoyable.

Materials:

Because Jordan Brand has reintroduced raw materials back to the flagship shoe, I believe you get a small boost over the normal Jordan 34. Yes, the Jordan 34 SE had a lot of nice leather on it, but it wasn't the genuine flagship.

Colorways will modify the overlay materials. Some will be made of leather, while others will be made of suede. It adds a luxury vibe to the $180 price tag and lets you relax a little while paying such a high amount for a basketball shoe. Although performance is paramount, some fans continue to purchase the yearly Air Jordan only to wear rather than to play in. Those fans must be overjoyed.

There is still enough of lightweight textile surrounding the primary construction of the shoe for the modern hooper. It has a lot of airflow and doesn't require any downtime.

Fit:

I would suggest the Air Jordan 35 for most foot shapes because it fits true to size.

However, the fit of the sneaker was also an issue for me. My arches were ruined by the nylon lacing wires that ran all the way down to the footbed. On the first night of testing, I discovered the problem and quickly removed the shoes. Regrettably, it was too late; the harm had already been done. Between the foot and the wires, there has to be more of a buffer. Something like cushioning, a thicker inner sleeve... Taping is something I'd do merely to get around the problem. Even so, you'll probably still feel them nibbling at your toes.

The remainder of the shoe is properly fitted and secures the foot. It's unfortunate that the arch area is damaged in this way. I'm hoping that others that play in the shoe don't have the same problem. It's one of the more painful injuries I've had when evaluating shoes, and it takes a long time to recover.

Support:

Apart from the materials, the support is the one area where the Air Jordan 34 outperforms. While the foundation is almost same, resulting in nearly identical stability, the construction is beefier, and the top materials don't collapse on you as they did in the Jordan 34 during certain movements - particularly around the ankle collar. This is why I was such a fan of the Jordan 34 Low. It got rid of the excess material around the collar that would buckle on occasion, leaving only what functioned.
