CDG Play's Converse Can Have As Many Hearts As It Would Like
Only one COMME des GARONS creation has ever truly broken through to the masses in the company's decades of existence. Founder Rei Kawakubo's never-ending experiments with silhouette, proportion, and material have garnered critical acclaim, a Met show, and a cult following across the world, but nothing quite compares to the CdG PLAY Converse Chuck Taylor.
With its all-over heart design, this rendition of the sneaker makes that very plain. Filip Pgowski's timeless heart emblem, a tough monochromatic canvas top, a midsole devoid of the foxing stripe, and a contrasting heel panel are all present. What else could you ask for?
Furthermore, like the latest blue variety, it's been relatively hard to come by since it first released last year, so its refill on the Japanese Dover Street Market site indicates a larger release for the graphic-rich cosmetics.
Now, whether it justifies a buck-fifty for a pair of scuffed-up Chucks is debatable.
But the truth is, it's not a crime for a shoe to be unobtrusive, and no one needs to pretend that wearing the CdG PLAY Converse makes the wearer a fashion expert. The CdG PLAY Converse are more akin to ostentation than anything else, a conceit far more deserving of criticism than a small red heart.
