Adidas Pays Homage To The Kawasaki Ninja With The ZX 8000 Sneaker
The Kawasaki Ninja is featured on two pairs of Adidas ZX shoes, adding motorbikes to the company's growing roster of collaborators.
By blending electric blue with the motorcycle's trademark hue of neon green, the ZX 8000 is every bit as thrilling as Kawasaki's legendary sportbike. The iconic "Ninja" emblem replaces the stripes on the lateral side of the shoe, and the greatest feature of all is a chrome cage on the heel that evokes wheels.
A more subdued ZX 5K Boost will also be available in black, with comparable chrome accents. The Three Stripes aren't there this time, but the Ninja emblem is hidden inside a rubber strip at the toe on the lateral side. The green decoration is likewise kept to a minimum, with an aggressive shark teeth design visible through the semi-translucent midsole.
One of the finest features of both Kawasaki ZX shoes is that it's also one of the most customizable. The ZX 8000 and ZX 5K Boost each come with a pair of interchangeable lace dubraes with a shiny appearance that evokes registration plates. Each mismatched set is emblazoned with “ZX” and “Torsion” branding, the latter of which refers to the technology Adidas introduced on the ZX 8000 in 1998.
A built-in arch from heel to toe is used in the Torsion system to offer support when twisting is performed. Throughout the 1990s, the ZX line using the technology became popular in the U.K.'s rave culture, with the Ninja's bright colors serving as a strong link.
The first cooperation between Adidas and Kawasaki will be available on the former's website on October 23, with price to be revealed later. Because the release date is still a ways off, don't be shocked if The Brand With Three Stripes drops even more motorcycle-inspired shoes to commemorate the event.
