Getting Into Clog Season With Brain Dead

Clogs are having a moment in fashion. The wooden-soled shoe, which was previously exclusive to the feet of Dutch farmers and fishermen, is getting a stylish makeover due to a variety of businesses, the most recent of which is Brain Dead.

The Energy Absorber Zoccolo, an Italian-made clog in black and silver, was just released by the Los Angeles-based creative group.

The first has a charcoal crepe top, while the second has a texturized silver textile upper that looks like steel grating. Brain Dead uses tiny silver studs to attach the shoe's top to the midsole, emulating the construction of traditional Swedish clogs. Both designs have a sportier feel thanks to a rubberized toe cap and grosgrain heel strap.

Brain Dead thoughtfully adds a Vibram rubber outsole to the shoe's clomp-y wooden platform, creating for something considerably beefier than its original Reebok Beatnik, muffling the clog's traditionally raucous nature (personally, I'm a sucker for loud footwear).

Several heel-baring shoes have made a reappearance, including the clog. Casual footwear such as the mule, slide, and its Dutch cousin have witnessed an increase in demand as a result of the epidemic. According to Lyst's quarterly ranking, searches for Birkenstock increased by 367 percent in Q4 2020.

Birk and other clog manufacturers, like as Crocs, have also announced a flurry of designer and celebrity partnerships, with names like Proenza Schouler, Justin Bieber, and Rick Owens among them.

Fashion companies are also launching their own versions of the clog: Bottega Veneta's rubber slingback, Gucci's platform mule, and 1017 ALYX 9SM's futuristic thing are all proof that, epidemic or not, laid-back footwear is here to stay.

Clogs are coming for your feet, whether you're ready or not – expect to see a lot of heel this autumn.
