Salute To Skate Culture's Unsung Heroes With Kazuki Kuraishi & Vans
Kazuki Kuraishi of Japan and Vans have collaborated on a carefully chosen capsule collection that pays homage to both sides' roots in street culture.
On September 4, two Vans classics — the SK8-Low and the Authentic — will be dressed in a creative Kuraishi-designed pattern featuring cartoon milk cartons, crates, and art handlers performing heavy lifting.
In a press release, The FOURNESS founder explained that the print is an homage to logistics workers, "and the skateboard competition staff who operate and support the competitors by transporting their decks with the Vans truck and also maintain them in the tents around the truck."
Kurashi's decision to showcase skate culture's unsung heroes comes at a good moment, considering the excitement around the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The capsule also contains clothing, like a vintage-looking white T-shirt emblazoned with Kuraishi's illustrated art work. A iconic '80s-'90s design is also featured on a long-sleeve shirt and thin pants: a pair of laughing lips reminiscent of Keith Haring.
Vans is one of those companies that will never go out of style, and they are no stranger to partnerships. Vans' veritable cornucopia of designer collabs (Vivienne Westwood, Fear of God, and COMME des GARONS CDG are just a few of our favorites) are adept at converting both fashionistas and the hype-averse into fans. You can't go wrong with the Classic Slip-On, or with Vans' veritable cornucopia of designer collabs (Vivienne Westwood, Fear of God, and COMME des GARONS CDG
Vans provides something for everyone, including skaters, fanatics, and people who have never set foot in a skate park. However, Kazuki Kuraishi x Vans is for the unsung heroes who make skateboarding possible.
