The 'Entourage' Auction At Sotheby's Is Overflowing With Grails
In some respects, HBO's Entourage has aged badly, but in others, it was ahead of its time. We're talking about how the program attempted to approach the world of footwear in particular. Despite Complex and Netflix's best efforts to bring our reality to the streaming world, a program about the culture and society that surrounds it has yet to catch on.
Turtle, everyone's favorite character in Entourage, spends a lot of time worrying over shoes and is, in many ways, a spitting picture of most of us on Saturday mornings (except we don't have celebrity friends who can pull strings and surprise us with 1-of-1 Nike sneakers). Several of the shoes depicted or mentioned on the episode were eventually made available in the real world (either as hyperstrikes or as samples from the show itself).
Sotheby's is now auctioning off some of these exact sneakers, with the top lot's reward — a gold Air Force 1 "UNDEFEATED x Fukijama" — likely to sell for between $60,000 and $90,000. The blue version of the same Air Force 1 sneaker (expected to fetch up to $14,000), two pairs of Friends & Family Nike SB Dunk Lows (one being the all-black colorway and the other being a rarer sample with a blue Swoosh), and a pair of Hyperdunks (expected to fetch up to $2,000) are the other sneakers featured in this auction.
The sneakers will be auctioned off on November 1st, but you can have a look at each one now on Sotheby's official site.
