Up Close And Personal With The Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid "Black"

Virgil Abloh, the originator of Off-White and a designer for Louis Vuitton, died on November 28th after a two-year struggle with cardiac angiosarcoma. The Chicago native is one of the most distinguished individuals in modern design, having played a significant part in establishing the shoe and streetwear industries. Following the release of his highly anticipated Air Jordan 2 collaboration just two weeks ago, we're now getting a closer look at the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid "Black."

The late fashion icon went all out with his interpretation of the Air Force 1 Mid. The "Black," one of two colorways in the works, is painted in a dark charcoal tone and created from a variety of materials. It has a Flyknit basis and is decorated in a stylish wavy design. Ripstop panels wrap around the ankle and heel, where you'll also find a midfoot strap for further support.

Abloh's passion of deconstruction has been brought to new heights in this work. The lateral and medial side panels feature "Clear Black" see-through Nike Swooshes, as well as technical text in Off-characteristic White's Helvetica typeface. Flat white laces zig-zag across the vamp, similar to his Dunk Low, and rubberised spikes in bright blue, green, and pink colours can be seen on the bottom of the shoe. To top it all off, the Air unit has a cut out so you can view the technology inside, which is the polar opposite of what La Flame did with his Travis Scott x Nike Air Max 1.

According to industry sources, partners like Virgil would typically have at least two years of projects planned out ahead of time, so we're convinced that the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid "Black" will appear alongside the "White" sometime next year.
